Ministry

After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing?  You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because it is true.  And since I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.  I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.  How true it is that a servant is not greater than the master. Nor are messengers more important than the one who sends them.  You know these things—now do them! That is the path of blessing."

— John 13:12-17 (NLT)

At the Last Supper Jesus gave us the model for service ministry when he washed the feet of his disciples. It was a humble act — not exciting or heroic, but profoundly important to Him. After all, this is how He chose to spend some of His final moments before facing crucifixion. It ought to be equally important to us.

The main idea here is that Jesus wants us to humbly serve one another and to humbly accept the services of one another.

Everyone at Morning Star will be a service minister. This doesn't mean we will all be preachers. But we will all be encouraged to serve the fellowship with whatever gifts we have been blessed and to whatever extent the Spirit moves us. We will help each other to identify our strengths and talents so that we may better serve and provide for one another.

When He was here, in the body, Jesus served others as a teacher, a healer, a provider, and a comforter. Now we are the Body of Christ and we are called to do these things. Jesus Christ directed us to do this when He said: "Take up your cross and follow me." A less poetic Messiah might have said: "Identify your area of service and pursue it."

Active Ministries at Morning Star:

Noah's A.R.C. / Crosses for Critters:   The purpose of this ministry is to raise funds to subsidize veterinary medical care for the pets of low income people — particularly the elderly. It is run by children who make Christian-themed craft items, such as beautiful beaded crosses, to remind us that sometimes less fortunate people need help providing for their beloved animal companions. Contact Sharlynne Legere.

Precious Lamb Ministry:   This ministry provides blankets and sweaters for needy children. Ladies of the church knit, sew, and crochet the blankets which are collected and donated every three months. Donations of yarn, thread, or fabric are welcomed. Contact Cathlene Thompson.

Morning Star Library:  This ministry collects and maintains a selection of inspirational books, tapes, music, and videos to aid spiritual growth.  Donations of all forms of Christian media are welcomed. Contact Cathlene Thompson.

Adult Christian Education:  We have an active ministry devoted to Bible study that meets on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings. We most recently studied the "Acts of the Apostles" and are currently studying "Understanding Revelation" and "Understanding the Rapture."  Contact Don Van Dalsem.

Video Studies: This group meets on Wednesdays to fellowship and discuss principles of Christian living using various study videos. Contact Mike Weiser.
